Who is this dude?

After growing up in Long Beach, Indiana, I joined the Navy in 1995 at 19. The Navy (or God? or the universe?) did me a huge favor by sending me to San Diego, and then Hawai'i. Two outdoor "meccas".

Athletically, I've been a competitive Adventure Racer since 1997, and a triathlete since 1992. I started running and strength training in 1990. I got my start in Obstacle Racing, technically speaking, in 1996 while in the Navy.

Over the years, I have competed in 24 hour to 7 day nonstop wilderness expedition multisport Adventure Races. These races are usually quite remote. In Adventure Races we race long distances by bike, foot, ropes and kayak. We cross mountain ranges, rivers, oceans, jungles and deserts. So far, I have raced across much of the USA, Baja, Mexico, Switzerland, Austria and Germany

My four years in the US Navy, stationed on O'ahu, Hawaii was a formative time that changed me. While exploring the rain forests, mountains and ocean as a poor student working full-time on active duty, my flame for adventure and exploration was ignited.

Some highlights:

2008 USARA 24 Hour Adventure Racing National Champion, North American Adventure Racing World Series/Expedition Racing World Championships Qualifier Champion, and Checkpoint Tracker Series National Champions, along with Glenn Rogers and Mari Chandler as Team DART-nuun.

2009 USA Triathlon "All American" (race Ironman, 70.3, XTERRA, and other odd distances).

Many podium finishes at cycling Time Trial races, top 10s at road races.

Some so-so ultramarathon performances (but I beat everyone in enjoyment of the trail time and the journey to race day!

I couldn't do any of that alone, and I wouldn't want to either. I also have coached a few athletes in the "dark arts" of combining CrossFit and ultra endurance. Over the last several years I have also enjoyed competing in obstacle races like Spartan Race, Tough Mudder (Colorado and Tahoe, top 3%, World's Toughest Mudder Qualifier).

I have a burning passion for learning, challenging myself, exploring and sharing everything I have learned. There are no secrets.
